State Representative Byron Cook

Files for Re-Election

Representative Cook pledges to continue fighting for lower taxes, quality public schools and the shared conservative family values of Anderson, Freestone, Limestone and Navarro Counties.

Corsicana, TX—State Representative Byron Cook filed on Thursday for re-election in the Republican Primary for Texas House District 8.  Since he was first elected in 2002, Cook has distinguished himself as a conservative leader in the district and the Texas House.

As State Representative, Cook has fought to restore a fair and open process to state government, reduce property tax rates, save the Texas State Railroad, toughen criminal penalties, create local jobs, guarantee local control of our public schools, protect local family values and to strengthen our border security.

“I am proud of the many accomplishments that we have made together, and I will continue to fight for our rural conservative values,” Rep. Cook said.  “It is a privilege to serve as your State Representative and I humbly ask for your continued support.”

This past legislative session, Cook was appointed by new Texas House Speaker Joe Straus as Chairman of the House Committee on Environmental Regulation, Vice-Chair of the Local and Consent Calendars and as a member of the powerful committees on State Affairs and Calendars.

Additionally, Rep. Cook was recently appointed as a member of the prominent Sunset Advisory Commission, which is charged with identifying and eliminating waste and inefficiency in state government.

“It is an honor to serve in these leadership responsibilities and to have the trust of my fellow House members, Speaker Straus and more importantly the residents of District 8,” Rep. Cook said.

Rep. Cook has received numerous awards and recognitions for his legislative achievements including the Texas Municipal League’s Legislator-of-the-Month award for his advocacy for rural and small Texas towns.

Rep. Cook is a Navarro County businessman and rancher.  He and his wife, Kay, have two daughters.
